Project Overview

Clinical Research Organizations (CRO), and sponsors (Pharma, Biotech organizations) were dealing with complex and evolving Clinical-study data that was traditionally unstructured, noisy, lacked data cohesion, and with Interoperability issues. Virgil Platform was planned to address the deep need for a collaborative study planning infrastructure that collects, organizes, and analyzes various dimensions of clinical data in a coherent manner.

Vigil (codename) was a part of the Virgil platform that offered a comprehensive view of the integrated data and made the data actionable with Intelligence. The application was created for iOS and Android platforms to take advantage of the hardware features of tablets and lower error rates compared to desktop computers. The Design of the application was done in collaboration with an external design agency.

Key User Pain Points

• Accessing operational & clinical data is difficult and effort-intensive.

• Making sense of available data requires context.

• Existing data platforms are too difficult to use.

• Difficulty in gaining access to data leads to bigger delays in solving the real issues

Styleguide

The application branding guideline for digital interfaces was used to keep brand alignment consistent with the other customer-facing products, the brand guideline was developed with help of an external design agency.

Information Architecture

• A mix of Operations, Central Review, and Rater quality data

• Surfaces the right data to the right user, at all points in time

• Central navigation provides access to all relevant data screens

• All key resources and data are searchable

• Give users an adaptive set of tools for immediate data analysis.

• Intended to be the simplest method to statistically visualize data in a need-based manner

• Clear color-coding & Legend indicates to user problem regions/sites and regions/sites that are performing well

• Easy to read legend provides relevant indicators based on the data type

Data Display:

• Users can view data in raw / percentage forms instantly

• All titles are clearly defined on rollover

• The level and depth of Data is displayed based on the role of the user and contract with the client

• The User can use data filters and select specific data they’d like to populate the map with

• Data view preferences are saved in the user profile

• Functions to elicit meaningful insights and patterns around study data

Style guide for Graphs and charts

Color and Style guide for different type of data visualization like graph, charts and maps has been created. Data display was color coded to convey different level and status of the sites or Study.

All of the parts were brought together in the design mockups following the design and experience principles

Handover

After designing all the screen mockups, design implementation guideline documents were created and handed over for development. I was closely involved during the development phase and made some design adjustments for better implementation. The design and implementation gained high praise from the client and both parties agreed upon signing design, development, and maintenance contracts for multiple platform products in the future.
